About one of our partners:

Schumacher-Knepper

The winery Schumacher-Knepper  is in a permanent search for excellence
drawing inspiration from a 10 generations’ tradition in harmony with terroir.

Domaine Viticole Schumacher-Knepper is a family-owned winery. Different documents prove wine-making in the winery since 1714. The estate is now owned in 10th generation by Frank Schumacher and his sisterMartine. The Domaine is a so-called independent winery where production, sales and distribution are assumed by the winery itself. The domaine produces all the Luxemburgish traditional grape varieties like Elbling, Rivaner, Auxerrois, Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris, Riesling, Gewürztraminer for white wines and Pinot Noir and Saint Laurent for red wine. The 9.5 ha of vineyards owned by the family are all situated in theWintrange Felsberg. The statue represented as logo and on the labels shows the Saint Donatus. The saint is supposed to protect vineyards against hail and frost. The monument was built by local citizens at the beginning of the last century. Harvest begins normally at the end of September and is traditionally made by hand. This guaranties an optimal and controlled harvest of healthy grapes. The winery works in harmony with the environment and the terroir. Vinification is a traditional Luxemburgish vinification : manual and selected harvest, partial maceration to concentrate flavor, pneumatic and controlled pressing, thermoregulated fermentation at 16° Celsius, vinification in stainless steel tanks, filling into bottles after a minimum of 8 months.

The Wintrange Felsberg where the winery is situated is one of the bestknown RieslingSites in Luxemburg. It’s situated in the south of the MoselleValley and its slopes are facing south and south-east. Riesling is the variety that grows perfectly in this area. Luxembourg produces for the greater part white wines, but also in lower quantities rosé and red wines. One of the grapes grown to make red or rosé wine is the pinot noir. It originates in Burgundy. Until the 16th century, the Moselle region principally cultivated red wines. The red wine cuvee is composed of Pinot Noir and Saint Laurent. It is called Lyra because the vines are cultivated like the form of the instrument. This culture guaranties a better sun exposure and aeration and so more mature grapes. Apart from wines, the winery also produces a sparkling wine, a Crémant de Luxembourg Brut. The Crémant is calledAlexandre de Musset which
is the name of the builder of theWintrange Renaissance Castle. The castle actually is a favourite site for international filmmaking. Schumacher-Knepper wines have been winning national and international awards at various wine competitions like Best of Riesling (Germany), Femmes et Vins du Monde (Monaco), AWC Vienna (Austria) , Concour s Mondial Bruxelles (Belgium), Mundus Vini (Germany), Concours des Crémants de France et du Luxembourg (France), Riesling du Monde (France), Mondial du Pinot Noir (Switzerland), Monde Sélection (Belgium).
